Police governance has never been more visible—or more challenging. Across Ontario, Police Service Boards, OPP Detachment Boards and First Nations Police Governance Bodies are navigating increasing public expectations, media attention, political pressures, operational demands and rapidly evolving community needs, all while maintaining effective oversight and strategic direction.

The challenge is not that policing must respond to urgent situations. The challenge is ensuring that governance remains intentional, focused and strategic rather than becoming reactive.

Join Police Governance Ontario for this engaging Learning Session as we explore practical governance principles that apply across Ontario’s police governance models while recognizing the unique legislative and operational context of each. Participants will examine why governance drift occurs, the difference between procedural and meaningful governance, and practical strategies for maintaining focus on the issues that matter most to effective governance and community safety.

This session will also introduce PGO’s emerging Governance Excellence Framework—a practical model designed to help Boards strengthen governance discussions, build productive relationships, improve strategic decision-making and foster a culture of continual governance excellence.
