Police Governance Ontario equips Municipal police service boards, First Nations boards, and OPP Detachment boards with the tools required to govern effectively through education, advocacy, and expertise.

To be the centre of excellence for police governance in the Province of Ontario, leading the advancement of civilian oversight and governance excellence in policing.

Our Mandate

PGO’s mandate is to:

  • Support boards in understanding and fulfilling their legislated roles and responsibilities in police governance.
  • Provide training, tools, and guidance that strengthen board performance and decision making.
  • Represent the collective voice of boards on issues that affect police governance and public safety.
  • Promote standards, practices, and partnerships that reinforce transparency, accountability, and community trust.
